About Bathing Water Litter Grant
The aim of the Scottish Government grant scheme, which is being administered by Keep Scotland Beautiful through the Clean Coast Scotland partnership, is to encourage, facilitate and reward communities, by designated bathing waters, who are involved in litter prevention campaigns or removal events which raise awareness of the impacts of coastal and marine litter on the environment.
The three main grant fund objectives are:
- To provide small amounts of funding to communities to allow them or appropriate groups to carry out practical clean-ups of the environment or run litter prevention campaigns in the area surrounding the designated bathing water.
- To support and promote community action with a focus on reducing litter pollution at Scottish bathing beaches.
- To raise awareness of the problems of coastal & marine litter pollution with support of the Clean Coast Scotland partner organisations.
If you think you can meet the objectives please complete the application form and return by e-mail to beach@ksbscotland.org.uk by Friday 28th May 2010. It is important to note that the fund is restricted to a total of £4,000.
The 2008 grant scheme awarded grants of up to £500 to groups at 12 bathing waters, including: Stonehaven, Aberdeen, Balmedie, Cruden Bay, Fraserburgh Philorth, Fraserburgh Tigerhill, and Peterhead Lido in Aberdeenshire; Ganavan Sands, Luss Bay, Machrihanish, and Ettrick Bay in Argyll and Bute; and Lunan Bay in Angus.
Funding of £4,000 was also available as part of the 2009 grant scheme to empower community action to reduce marine and coastal litter pollution at bathing waters and their associated beaches, and applications were received for three bathing waters in the Argyll & Bute area.
